Body Damage is Cool
Hey gang, been busy with getting ready for my wedding, and among the tasks is to get rid of my old VW jetta. Not having much luck with getting my asking price, so I thought trade.
long and short, I have a guy who wants to trade me for a 1980 Honda CB750F SuperSport. It is in pretty good shape, from what little I know. I find lots of good reports on google, but was wondering if anybody has any first hand experience?? My original asking price on the car was $1250, and I find ads online for these bikes for anywhere from 1000-1800$, so I'm comfortable with the trade in principle.

This would be my first bike, at age 41! The bride-to-be is actually the one to point me in this direction. She grew up around bikes, so she's all for it!
A buddy at work is pretty savvy with bikes, but mostly dirt. He's really mechanical, so I will trust his opinion of it's mechanical condition, but he doesn't know "this" bike.
any opinions, or insider tips?

Thanks!

Pulls like a train, smooth as butter, Honda quality, and you know, you always needed a bike, right?

Seriously, as your friend, get it if you want it, it stores in less room than the Jetta, but, please, please, ride it like every's mother's son and daughter out there is actively trying to kill or maim you. It's the only way to be safe, and they CAN'T SEE YOU... And get the best helmet you can afford. And leathers. Pavement hurts.

And the most dangerous time on a bike is about 4-5 months after you get it, when you start to get good on it. Bikes don't slide, they just drop out from under you, whether braking or cornering. The difference between staying up and going down is knife edged, and at 4ish months on a bike, you are starting to push into the drop range. Beware.

And one cautionary tale. I was riding along on my Ducati Diana 250cc cafe racer on Old Gunnelford Road, on the limestone gravel and chert when a country creeper in a Studebaker pickup backed out across the whole road, and I laid it down to try to miss him, wearing cut off blue jeans, a tee shirt, and ho chi minh sandals. My last somersault planted my head and left shoulder into the driver's door, which I ruined. They picked gravel out of me for 3 hours and 4 buckets of sweat I donated free of charge. Swore off street bikes for years after that one.

That model Honduh is the one I repo'ed from the biker gang in my banking days in B'ham. I could run away from 4 on foot bikers with a flat back tire and drive right up the 2x10 in to the bed of the Ranchero for the get away. Tough old bike. I'd do the deal, I guess, a man just needs a bike...

Eddy is right. A man DOES need a bike. It's hard to own just one though, so clear extra space in your garage when you buy this one smile

Great bike, still lots of parts for it. You can turn it into anything you want, highway tourer, cafe racer, rat-rod it, restore it, or just ride it.

Plan on spending several hundred (minimum) on good safety gear as well. Motorcycles are neither cheap transportation nor an inexpensive hobby!
