So I went with the np231 case. The speedometer cable will thread on but the cable itself does not match. the mitsu has a round piece with a key style adapter and the np231 is a square adapter. I am going to look into seeing if I can swap a cherokee cable and see if it will plug into the back of the speedo since the mitsu has a square input.

I am looking at getting the tcase swap in a month once I get my shifter and cable linkage set up done.

Just call nevada speedometer and they can make you an adapter for about $100. You just screw the adapter on to the end of the existing cable and it should work. They made an adapter for my stock Mitsu cable to my Atlas and my speedo works not to mention it is accurate. Turn around time was about a week after I gave them the specs.

Why not a nv242? There's a 242hd amg version behind the 4L60E (or is it the 4L80E) in H1's and H2's. This gives you all the options of the Gen2 tcase with the 4wh, 2wh, a N position, and 4wl with the center diff locked. Dside drop, too. THere are sye kits that fit. THe Heep version needs a Novak adapter to bolt up to the same pattern as the 231, another $550...

Keeping it simple. Plus I got an insane deal on my 231. But through this work it could easily be applied to the 242 or similar cases. The big thing I am trying to take care are all the little things that come up and get in the way like speedometer, linkages, driveshaft lengths. I hope to have an easy answer for all these things. Toasty has did the hard part of seeing if this stuff will bolt up.

O yeah one other tip I learn this weekend. If you get one of the tcases with the electric speedo set up you can swap in an older style manual speedo with 1 bolt. Saves money on buying expensive conversion adapters to make it work.

Any good speedo shop can adapt cable ends and such. Speeometer Repair Service in Roswell/Alpharetta, GA has done good work for me in the past, adapting a B&M pulse generator and magic box to control the TC lockup on a 700r4 in my LC FJ55 with the 350sbc.

Are you going to try to keep the shifter in the same place? I thought about moving the parking brake to the other side of the console and getting the jeep shifter to put there. Reasoning that the driver wouldn't bump the shifter in a mad scramble to keep oneself from bouncing around the cab. I did find a electric switch for the 231. It's a NAPA 600-2941/ dorman 600551. There is a connector that fits it so the dash light can be retained. I don't know about room for the tunnel though. It's been cold so I haven't started mine conversion yet. And I'm trying to get the SYE kit.

Which case is that? When I checked wikipedia (yeah it's not necessarily accurate) it didn't show that model. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Venture_Gear

It shows the NVG 249 as an all wheel drive xcase and only has a final ratio of 2.72:1.

Then there's the 2410R which matches the final drive ratio you mention.

I hope to use the stock location but figuring out the shifter will be fun. I like the idea of the shifter beside the center console but I rather not make more holes in my cab. but I think the idea would be slick looking. My 231 has that switch on the case. I need to get the plug and wire and figure out how to tie into the stock wiring.
