New plugs, wires, rotor, cap, ECU ( Wells model F-133 ignition control module) .

Distrib pickup coil sensor test results :
Ohmed out distrib pickup coil to see 400 ohms between orange and purple terminals on the pickup coil side of connector.
Pickup coil black wire showed continuity from connector to ground.

Ignition coil ( still at cool ambient temperature ) test results :
showed continuity between primary ( + / - ) terminals .

Have spent years refurbishing the miles of vacuum hose and emission wires and components .
Desire to keep street legal in Connecticut and have opted at this time not to bypass the MCU .

Replaced MCU approx 5 years ago when the yellow diagnostic box near battery indicated several circuits were not within specs.

Perhaps MCU is bad , wires to /from MCU , ECU ?
This issue persisting intermittently for years .
I feel that this is an issue of intermittent lack of connectivity but can not isolate the trouble spot.

Can MCU be verified w/o accessing it ?
Choices appear to be narrowing cause as : MCU , open or shorted wires between ECU / MCU/ Dist. pickup coil .

Anything overlooked / suggestions ?

Did you check for a blown fuse for the ECU? Check them ALL with a test light, ignition on. should light on each side of the fuses. If you have a stick shift, the clutch master sometimes leaks and the brake fluid corrodes the fuse box. You might get a wiring diagram of the ECM and verify that there is power and ground at the ECM itself. Also verify that the ignition pickup coil pulse is getting to the ECM connector.

You may have to try a temporary "Nutter Bypass" to see if the engine has spark. If so, then it may be the ECM or the wiring to it.

If I remember correctly, there's a diode box in the ECM/engine harness, but I can't say for sure if it's for the igniion control or the carb mixture control side of the ECM. Inside the box is a set of diodes that sometimes gets corroded. The box is about 2" long, 1-1/4" wide, by 1/2" deep and taped to the engine harness near the valve cover. There's a small circuit board inside that can pull out for inspection and cleaning.

Per your question on the other post, The ground goes through the pickup plate itself, the ground screw is the pickup plate mounting screw. The ground path is then through the pivot on the advance plate, thus the possibly poor ground.

If you decide that the ECM is bad, I may have a good one. I just need the number off it to see if I do. It's mounted under the dash near the glove box.

No spark issue resolved.
Thanks for the guidance .
Used your input to help isolate the issue. The pickup coil checked out on the continuity test and also the A/C voltage per your instructions. Yes, did the "flex all wires" in the verification process. Good idea.

Years ago , I spliced in 2 wires when I switched the oem ignition coil to the Ford ignition coil as per this forum .
Since that time , it appeared that the splice connections were corroded and it is my thought that the connections needed refurbishing . I replaced the ten cent connections and the jeep fired up.
Thanks for the input -- invaluable .

That'd be one of the locations where shrinkwrap would pay for itself.. Any corrosion would be kept out for ever..

Body Damage is Cool
Try slathering a bunch of Liquid Electrical Tape all over the new connectors, especially where the wires go into them. That holds true for any electrical splices you make.
