I need to attended to some issues with my 98. Instead of paying stealership prices im going to try and go the salavage yard route for my first time. Two major issues: First the hatch to my rear door cracked. Its the inside piece you squueze direclty bheind the MITSUBISHI letters on the rear door handle/ license plate holder. Has anyone ever had the problem? Can you fix it with just switching out the entire unit?
Second is a short in my drivers seat. It wont move back and forth. Can I replace the motor or do I need to replace the whole seat?
And last any idea where I can find said parts in the Phnx area?

There's a plastic lever that breaks on the rear door handle - not uncommon. You'll just need to replace your door handle assembly - it comes off with a couple of 10mm nuts once you have the inside trim panel and plastic vapor barrier out of the way.
Your seat issue needs some diagnosis before you waste any money just throwing parts at it - download the FSM wiring diagrams first (so you know which wires to be checking), then you'll first want to check to see if you have power at the seat switch. If you have power there then check to see if there's power getting to the motor. Your problem could be a broken or cut wire, a bad connection at a wiring connector, a bad seat switch, or a bad seat motor, but find the cause before you replace any parts.

Keith, I had the same issue(s) on Gen 2 and 2.5's. I tried to repair the plastic handle, but it didn't last too long. I decided to get a new one at the dealer, around $50. The seat switch could just need a good cleaning of the contacts.

Yeah the rear door handle is worth buying from the stealer, look up the part then put in the part number in mitsubishiparts.net to make sure your dealer of choice is giving you a good deal. Like Monte3 said i think i paid 50 for mine and you get the whole assembly minus the cover. The seat might just have dirty contacts in the switches. Move the switches back and forth a bunch and see if it moves and if it does take it apart and clean it with electrical cleaner and steel wool.

What they said
BUT.... if anyone knows of any Gen2's in a yard around Phoenix or somewhat further out, please don't be afraid to speak up! Just Trucks still hasn't moved the one they have in reserve out to the line and I need some little things I am not paying dealer prices for and I haven't seen one anywhere else....

Sounds like that one could have what I need, but I have a whole list, and I don't think I can get up that way this weekend. I too would like to know if they are open on Sunday, because if I can go up, that would be when I could. If I can't go, and anyone wants my list, talk with me and we'll see if we can't work things out....
