Getting the Wheeling Fever
I got a race car builder here in Indy that wants to make me a cage but I was wandering if the great mind trust here knows of a manufacturer that makes a "kit" that you weld together yourself? I plan on 3 hoops, one for the windshield and dash that will weld to the frame at the floorboards, dash bar, and the top will bolt to the windshield frame. The second hoop will slightly behind the drivers compartment with harness bars and the third will protect the passenger compartment with a harness bar as well. Then the roof is coming off and im having a custom made soft top done by a boat canvas maker. Im gonna use J channel like the newer wranglers use and try and make Wrangler windows work for the simple ease of installation and the top will hug the roll cage. I dont want any bows and the front will attach with wrangler style latches. I need to get my hands on a wrangler with a tape measure and take some preliminary measurements to find out where material needs to be added and taken out. I wont ever go back to a hard top once this is done. Anybody know of a cage kit manufacturer out there or done one themselves and wanna build another?

There are not likely any 'kit' rollbars for the Raider. Everything will be custom, but not difficult.

No, John Baker prety much disappeared, about 12 years ago and has not been seen or heard from since. If you want a cage you'll have to go custom.

John Baker used to have a store in Wisconsin called Truck and Tractor. For some reason, he liked Monteros and was offering a few aftermarket parts and things. The last I heard of him was just after I bought one of the last Thorley headers for a 2.6. I didn't think it was twelve years ago, as Justice said, but I guess it just might have been that long.

Good luck!

John B.

He liked monteros because he raced for mitsubishi in the Baja 1000 back in the old days. He had a Mitsu specific company called John Baker Performance Products in the early to mid 90's and then as he transitioned to the Truck and tractor business he continued to sell some holdover stuff from the old busines...

I google mapped the "old" address for JB a few months ago. I found it somewhere here on 4x4. Building looks vacant.

Guess I'll have to have it done custom somewhere around here then. I was just hopin there was a "kit" out there like they sell for other more popular vehicles cause they can be had pretty cheap and they usually sell "add ons" seperatley.

The only kit for our trucks comes with a welder, tubing bender, chop saw, grinder, bundle of tubing, and a tape measure...
