Checking around on car-part.com, it looks like "cheap" is like $1700 for one running. Yikes....

Got any tips on where to look TOASTY?

Thanks, TOASTY. I appreciate it. Going to drop by a machine shop and just ask some questions this week if I get time.

Good one WW. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> I definitely know more about that engine than this one. Well, at least i used to anyway. Starting to know my way around this one in a short period of time. It's definitely a good engine. Wish I had the skills to pull that one off. They are a HECK of a lot cheaper to get a hold of running.

Happy Birthday!!! I think this calls for an AZ Round up. We need to circle the wagons and get this guys truck going cheap like. Well, as cheap as possible anyway. The one thing we need to consider is the block is good and heads could be bad. this would make the fix a lot cheaper, plus it would eliminate any shipping fees, if there would be any. Plus, lloyd has thrown his old engine in for us to maybe dig into. Anybody know what was even wrong with that engine that was pulled out of lloyds montero?

I.. umm... don't really have much to offer but I'll help where I can. I think the engine in my garage is seized, but I have done literally nothing whatsoever since putting it in the garage. It can stay here a while, but eventually it's gotta go somewhere... smile

The heads could possibly still be rebuildable, and if J has a good block in that truck than we could probably make something work.

I would think, most likely, that the old engine from Lloyd's truck has a few bent, gnarly valves in the way of the pistons.

Has anyone priced rebuilt heads for the 3.5 from Clearwater? And if so, what do they come with, as in, bare heads?, with cams?, fully assembled?

Looks like $295 per head JB. Shows the cams in the photo on the site, but I will have to call for details.

I am certainly no expert and engines by any means, and the oil sample I had done may or may not have been the best sample, but the noise I'm hearing is metal on metal. Not a sharp, valve into piston type sound but a scraping/squeaking type noise. I'm wondering if the main bearings are shot. I'm going to stop by a well regarded machine shop in Mesa tomorrow and ask some questions, and see about a long block rebuild cost. I may R&R the heads myself, and just have them checked for flatness. I'll have to check into the cost of that vs buying the remans from Clearwater. A lot of checking around to do, but thank you for the offer for support fellas. This truly is a cool group of guys.

IIRC the 3.5 from various Hyundai sedans like the XG350 sedan is the same long block and would probably be a much more affordable used engine choice.
