Not so much. I was still recovering yesterday, but ended up getting some work done last night. From what I can tell, I'm down to just the exhaust, the bell housing bolts, and a couple of coolant tubes to the heater core. Exhaust is a little rusty so I hosed the bolts down with PB Blaster and will see if they break loose tonight. Plus I need a couple more 1/2" drive extensions to get the exhaust loose from the manifolds.

PAJ - could you take a measurement of the bolts that are holding Lloyd's engine to the stand? I need to pick some up for my engine when we get around to pulling this thing, and I'm pretty sure I have the same stand that you have in your garage.

Engine is out! A HUGE, HUGE thanks to PA_JERO for coming by and showing a newbie how it's done, and giving me a hand with this. And for showing that the two bell housing bolts that I thought were the tough ones, we're not actually the tough ones that prevented us from getting the engine out the first try. And that you have to take the torque converter bolts out before trying to take the engine out the second time. Once he got me all sorted out, it came out like a champ. Now to get it on the stand and figure out what's up. Thanks again PAJ!

And I wish any of you guys were my neighbor. Well, RyanY is sort of close, but he's hardly ever home, and Dylan is starting a business, so...he's hardly ever home.

And HoseB is pretty much worthless...

Good job, you guys. I know that truck will run again.

Shoot I wish I was your neighbor johnny, I would never have to actually buy a montero. I would just drive your trucks around and pretend they were mine.

I bet hoseb is really bumbed we havent finished putting back together the gray truck. He was really excited you decided to do an engine swap for his truck

Problem number one found tonight. Drivers side 2nd intake rocker and cam lobe:

And this was the "new" head. Did not have the proper allen sockets to remove the heads, so I'll be making one of my bi-weekly stops to HF to pick up a set and see what the valves look like. Nothing found so far on the passenger side head.

If I weren't typing this from my hotel room in San Antonio I might argue with you about how often I'm home. The problem is that when I'm actually home I've got so much to do - maintaining the house, maintaining the vehicles, maintaining the kids, maintaining the girlfriend .

I also prefer to work on my own vehicles whenever possible, so the Montero has been sadly ignored for a while now, but since I now have another vehicle to drive I might just have to pay someone to get the things done on it that i can't seem to find the time to do myself. Anybody out there enjoy installing and setting up differential gears?

Ryan, as I type from my hotel room in Pinetop-Lakeside, I can say member OnSail may well be AZ's gear man. Toasty might know his number, and I know you've been over to his house.

Haztoys also is a gear set-up guy, and there may be other Crewer's that know that work, but I'd start there.
