Forgot about the invoice. I just emailed you mine from 2 1/2 years ago. I was off on the price.

You may be able to save some money by getting your hardware at a local place like Copper State Nut and Bolt. I did that with my '86, but I had to use SAE hardware as they didn't have the correct length/hardness in metric bolts.

Thanks JohnB. Got the invoice and replied to your email. What was the extra 12" of 2.5" UHMW for? Is that something I will need? Is the extra long hardware needed also, or will the standard heavy duty hardware kit work?

I replied in the email about the hardware thing. I honestly can't remember what the extra plastic charge was for...it's been a while.

Quick update on the Montero:

Got the oil pan off and main webbing taken out this evening. Looks like all of the crank bearings are down to the copper and have significant lines all through them. Crank doesn't look too bad, but I can feel the grooves (barely) with my fingernail. Looks like I'll be in need of a good short block, or a rebuild. My gear head co-worker with a JY hookup hasn't turned up anything, and I haven't had much time to look myself. So if anyone hears about one, please let me know.

Or, if any of you guys know of a reputable machine shop that will do re-assembly, that would help also. I got a quote from a shop in Mesa, and they want $1100 for the machine work, but will not do re-assembly.

Not much movement over here. Same as the last update. Looking for a replacement short block now. Went to Ecology this week and struck out. Two LS 3.0, with usable interior parts if anyone is interested, and one sport with no engine. Going to try to hit a couple more yards next week. In the meantime I'm going to take a stab at the body lift when I can manage the time. Work has been eating a lot of my time lately, and I've been fighting off a bout of pneumonia for the past 3 weeks. Good times....

Got some JY recommendations from PA_JERO, and started with Ecology. Got a few more from him that I will be checking out. Anyone else got some hidden gems they've had luck at? I'll post up some pics of the main bearings when I get the chance.

There is a 3.5 in a black Gen II at the u pull it in PV. I know it's a drive, but the last time i was there, it was complete. The had a 3.0 also if anyone is interested. The 3.5 does not have it's axle if any one is wondering and the 3.0 is non-locking disc. If you let me know, I might be able to help. I'm in flag but I love going to those kind of places.

I take it that PV means Prescott Valley, not Paradise Valley, correct?

Thanks for the heads up heathdogg. I won't be able to drive up that way for a while. All I have for transportation at the moment is my work truck, which got a GPS unit installed last week <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />, so I'm limited to in town at the moment.

Hit 5 more yards this week, and have come up empty handed. And no yards are interested in selling just a short block. They want to sell the whole thing.

I found a machine shop in Utah online and called them this week. Looks like I'll be shipping it out to them as they will do the machine work and the re-assembly, and ship it back to me. Not sure of the shipping costs yet but they will do all of the work for less than I was quoted in town for just the machine work. They were very helpful on the phone and sound like they know what they are doing, so I'm going to take a chance on them. Hopefully it won't come back to bite me in the arse. Going to tear the rest of the short block down this week to get ready to ship out to them.

While the block is out for the rebuild, I'm going to order up a gasket kit, head bolts, updated intake, and anything else I can come up with, and also get the heads done locally while the block is out for rebuild.
