Hopefully not as bad as mine. I swear whoever owned this prior to the "mechanic" that sold it to me must have never changed the oil for it to look this beat up with only 112K miles.

On a good note, the short block is officially on a truck heading to the machine shop in Utah. Now to figure out how much more cash I'm going to have to dole out to get this thing running again.

as long as you stay under $3500, otherwise you could have went to a 4M40 engine which wipes it's ass with the 6G74 DOHC or otherwise.
Now that i'm not getting the Sport officially, I had thought about going 4M40 in the '99 but it could never be made legal unless i had a way to register it in a non emissions county. But in a '95 or older it could be done.

Sure, NOW you toss that idea out there. I love diesels.

I'll be honest, I think I'm going to be pretty close to that mark by the time this is all said and done. The short block rebuild with shipping will probably come in around $1200 or so, heads are going to be $600 plus shipping, plus a full gasket kit, head bolts, flywheel bolts, torque converter bolts and all of the misc. stuff adds up pretty quickly. That's not counting what I've dumped into it already. And its not even considering the updated intake if I choose to go that route. Still waiting to see what JBFP comes up with on his intake/bushing rebuild to see which route I'm going to take.

The intake will only be a handful of dollars. Don't worry about it.

Thanks JB. I'm seeing how your o-ring experiment turns out before I decide to upgrade my existing intake, or pop for a new one. I'm hoping all of your experimentation will provide a permanent solution for the butterfly issue on these. You might put Mother Mitsu out of the intake business.

It's a ten cent fix away from being "done." Well, that and several hours of my labor to remove and replace the plenum, undo all the butterfly valves, install a correctly sized o-ring (the ten cent part) and reassemble it.

Too bad I can't just jam some packing around the thing and call it a day.

I've already thought about trying to wrap the exposed part of the shaft with Teflon tape. Don't tempt me.
