What's the absolute biggest tire I can put on my 1989 SWB Montero? I'm rocking the stock rims and I also don't want to have to fabricate fender wells or any of that business... I was thinking 31's? Any advice would be great!

It's limited by the width of the tire, not the tire diameter. 10" wide is probably as wide as most shops will go for the 6" wide rim and 11" is probably as wide as they'd go for the 7" wide rim. In metric terms that's either a 304 or 335 for the first number (ex. 235 as in 235/75R15).

With the 6" wide rim, no reason you can't mount some 32x11.5s, 33x10.5s, 34x10.5s, or 35x10.5s (Swamper Bogger).

For the 35s, body lift is in order, the others will fit with no mods except to the front bumper plastic ends.

Here is Brian's rig with 34s:

Here is my Raider with 32s:

For comparison, same rims with 31x10.5s:

And more comparison with 33x12.5s on 8" front / 10" rear rims:

This topic is covered often enough it should be a sticky, but I like to show off Roxy anyhow.

Cheers,
Russell

Russell, the blue one, does it have the 7" rims? The one I just brought home has those and I haven't got a chance to look yet. Thanks.

The 'pomegranate' wheels are 6" wide with 4" backspacing. I think they'd look awesome as a beadlock wheel.

Or as an 8" or 10" wide rim for a 12.5 or as much as a 14" wide tire. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />

Where and what 10.5's didyou order? I had 33x10.5x15 BFG Muds (Now on my Nephew's 89 2dr) Thoses were the best looking tires on truck. I now have 32x11.5x15 BFG all terrains on the 89. They look nice... The 95sr has 31x10.5x15 Dayton ATII's (wish they were bigger)

I don't recall the Gen II rim width but the Gen I LS rims (aka pomegranate rim) are.
