I agree Russell.

My point is based on what 'shops' are likely willing to do which I believe is based on what tire manufacturers recommend as a minimum wheel width. For example, most recommend an 8.5" wide rim for my 12.5" wide MT KM2's.

That said, a lot of tire shops are still willing to mount them on 8" rims. Not sure how many 'reputable' shops will mount them on 7" wide rims or what the possible dangers there are by doing so (not talking tire wear issues).

I did read here that wide tires on a narrow rim 'create poor a bead seal' which is obviously potentially dangerous.

As others have already experienced, I too have run wide tires on 'too' narrow rims (8" rims for a 12.5" tire) without issues.
