Those that know me, know I dont mess around when it comes to winches. I ran hydraulics for years before deciding to sample the best of modern electrics, which I deemed to be the T-max after extensive research.

So, I get Fourwheeler yesterday and am pleased to see a REAL test program. Not simply power use, weight, real pull and did it move us 50'. They did it all including key areas of submerged operation and STALLING. Who the hell never stalls a winch Anyhow, knowing they rig things for there advertisers I quickly flipped through the pages.

Harbor Freight NEVER WORKED(big surprise), Summit Racing NEVER WORKED, Submersion kills Kodiak, and Warn is water contaminated. The stall test kills the Bull Dog, Superwinch and the Warn, leaving only the Engo and T-max working. But get this WARN WINS and Superwinch is second followed by T-max.(T-max compared favorably in all other catagories by the way)

But seriously, while I want performance, if a winch cannot stand up to a SINGLE testing session...you got to be kidding me...

Yeah, that's fourwheeler mag for you. Those guys should just stay away from shootouts and challenges because they seem to always pick whoever "sponsored" the mag and not the actual winner. Like the SUV of the year for '11 was the new grand cherokee and it was the worst offroad and the transfer case broke but it looked the coolest and it said Jeep on it, The only "truck" in the shootout was the lexus and it had a full frame and solid rear axle but it was "dated" so it lost a lot of points by looking older.

Lloyd, IIRC Overland Journal also did a winch shootout as well as a Snatch Strap shootout in the past 2 years. What i do find interesting is it's usually the more expensive solutions that win with them. Regardless it's worth checking out if anyone's in the market IMHO.

9-9,500 should be fine. 4dr Monties I like a 10-12K. I use a 10K. I have never heard of Pro-mark. It may be a rebrand. No Ramsey either, but not all manufacturers were willing to send them a winch probably. I forgot about the Grand Cherokee incident Seriously, if something cannot survive ONE DAY of testing(or a few days) it CANNOT POSSIBLY WIN. If your t/case blows out in the middle of nowhere YOU LOOSE!

Promark is the company name for Gorilla. I just got a 12,000# for my SWB and just got the ARB and winch completed today. Took several before and after pics just can't figure out how the #@$%&*** to post them! Got the Silverback model which is supposed to be water sealed as opposed to the other model that just has the motor sealed.

It's not a rebrand as far as my research can tell it's a company that established itself in 2003 finding a lack of good winches available on the market. Several reviewers said it out performed their previous winches including Warn and they'd never buy a different brand. Many were from people that used them every day during their businesses recovering vehicles. One had 2 winches useed multiple times daily over 2 years without a concern. I couldn't find a negative.

Figured better to go for the additional capacity rather than to skimp. After all we have to be able to rescue those big pretend 4X4's....... just to tick'em off!

A long time ago, I was a sports car enthusiast. In the early 60s R&T published a review of the latest Porsche and raved about it. Less than a year later they published another review of the next latest Porsche - saying a great it was and how Porsche had fixed the horrible oversteer of the earlier model.

After that I ignored all auto reviews.
