Getting the Wheeling Fever

I got one of the heads pulled yesterday.
It is cracked and the bores look like trash.
Time to source another engine.
I spent some time at Pick-n-Pull yesterday, no RWD 6G72 that were wrecked (I don't want to pull an engine that is likely bad - hopefully I can find something that was rear-ended) and no 6G72 Sonatas. I had to get some items for the Saab and Mercedes, so I didn't spend any time in the Mopar/Mitsu car section, I suppose I'll do that next weekend.

Zombie thread, eh?
I finally acquired good block/heads. A friend gave me block/heads from a Chrysler van.
I've swapped the oil pump, plugged the oil filter feed on the drivers side, plugged dipstick on drivers side, bored for dipstick on passenger side, swapped cams and roller cam setup.
I'm just about ready to put the heads on.
How far up should I build the engine before putting it back into the truck? I pulled the heads when the block was still in the truck. Can I get it back in with the intake on?

It RUNS!
Lots of buttoning up to do - but it lives! It even moved under its own power - though not very far as it is low on transmission fluid. But it did move!
It needs a radiator (that's why the heads were melted in the first place) and I snapped the studs on the mid section of the exhaust, but it is a happy day.
Hopefully I can snag some ATF tomorrow and at least get her to go around the block.

Excellent news! Sounds like you've done your homework, although looking at your signature, I'd say it comes with the territory, right? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Keep us updated!

Charlie, most had a maserati motor, but during the Chrysler/Maserati cooperation in the 80's, a few came with a 440 torque monster. Type 4's, iirc. I rode in one during the 90's. It's possible it was a custom job, I was riding with a Maser dealership owner. It was seriously fast.

Squirting the biturbo should help that engine out allot, Has the LSD worn out in yours yet? Actually I ended up finding a 2.8l EFI from an '89 Maserati 430. Sadly, it had 3 bent valves as well. Luckily, I was able to recover the needed valves from my original engine (18v engines, yay!) Work on it stopped late in the spring when I started working on the Montero again. I've got two more valves to shim - had to get shims at the Ducati dealer. Valve shimming is the absolute worst thing about these engines - 2 valves are actuated with on bucket. It'll still be Megasquirted though. Mine doesn't have a LSD - it's an '84. One day it'll get swapped out for a Ranger - which is a Quaife in all but name.
