 Weber carb swap - accelerator cable issue

On the 88 SWB I just got, a Weber has been installed. It needs an engine swap, so I need to disconnennect it. The PO (or his mechanic) cut the original end off with taping, heat shrinking etc. Look at this; [img][image] http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt64/fastfoodvw/The%20Shogun/Shogunenginecompartment010.jpg[/img][/image] You can see how frayed it is. When I disconnect it I'm worried it will just totally spread apart. Any ideas on an end for it?

I'm not seeing a problem here...
If the cable becomes frayed after you disconnect it from the carb linkage, twist the frayed wires back together before re-threading it through the hole in the linkage bolt.
It don't have to be purdy - just functional!

you could crimp them all together with a fishing leader crimp, or an electrical one, and then braze or solder them together, and then remove the crimp.

Had the same problem with mine. Did my best to twist back togther, souldered, rolled and tapped with hammer to get back to round. Had to drill out the pin slightly larger to feed back through, but it works.

That's a great idea Curtis. Will do that tomorrow. Simple fix for an annoying problem. With the VW's there was all kinds of shorteners available, I don't know if they are even available anymore.
