Jim:
Certainly no Trooper is going to crawl like a Jeep. My Son-in-law has a locked TJ with 35ö tires that will do that. Jeeps are even more of a money pit then Troopers.
I have a good friend that does a new 4X4 project every 18 months. He went all the way with a TJ and he says the biggest improvement he made was the long arm suspension he added.
His latest ride is a Jeep JK Rubicon two door soft top. It took him surprisingly little time and accessories to make a potent trail rig out of it. Gears, 35ö tires, fenders, bumpers and a set of shocks was all it took. The v-6 gets good freeway mileage and the factory improvements to the suspension gives a good off or on road ride. He didnÆt even need a kit to make the tires fit. It is at home on the highway as it is off road. Even has roll up windows and A/C.
For me the trooper has always been an expedition vehicle. Being alone and retired and gas prices the way they are my trips will have to be over nighters or longer to make the expense of a tank of gas go as far as it can. I used to enjoy throwing a sleeping bag on the ground but now prefer to sleep in the trooper.
Bring your Trooper down to the Great PNW Meet and Greet in Centralia on June 12th and show us what you have. You might find a buyer.
