Went to get may Montero inspected last weekend and it didn't pass. They would not pass it because of the hoses that are supposed to be hooked to the air cleaner were not hooked up, and the thermostatic hose from the exhaust manifold cover to air filter housing was missing.

They suggested that I go to the DMV and get a waver, but I avoid that place like the plague! So, here is what I did.

I made a plate that has the weber cut-out in the right spot relative to the location the air filter would set. Also, it needed to have an offset of about 1/2 inch so that the filter would set flat and in the same location as stock.

Here you can see where I cut out the air filter housing just inside where the filter element sets. I took the welded up adapter and mounted it to the carb, then with the filter housing in place marked the two in three places so that I could determine exactly where to weld it in place.

A slight modification had to be made to the foot on the housing where it attaches to the valve cover but was not a big deal.

Got it all hooked up and passed inspection no problem. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I have the pattern for the plate if anyone is interested.
