... Here are the codes I'm dealing with.

P0740 TCC ckt malfunction
P0750 shift sol A malfunction
P0755 shift sol B malfunction
P0760 shift sol C malfunction
P0765 shift sol D malfunction

Thanks for the tips. ES, I read about the struggle you're having with yours. I'm not looking to spend lots of time and money on mine either. I think I'll keep looking for a cheap 97-99 Sport to grab out the harness, ecm, and tcm. ....

No worries. I thought that's what I'd remembered you'd done. Yea, understand that. Didn't think you were looking to spend a lot of money on this.

I don't know how well that's going to work, though. There are a LOT of things on the newer Sports that don't exist on the '97-'98 and on the '99. Take a look at my PDF. It runs all the way up into the 2000s; you'll see what I mean.

Those five codes, though, are the ones I was talking about previously. These are triggered when the solenoids - in your case - aren't there. You can wire resistors up in place of the solenoids and that will make the PCM happy. Thankfully, they're not smart enough to know the difference between a solenoid and a resistor. smile Take a look at my PDF linked to above and look at page 8.

Are these the ONLY codes? No pending codes?

No driveability issues?

BTW, if you stumble across a LS '97 manual harness (both interior dash harnesses, and all the engine stuff, let me know!)

What year and model is your Sport? I wanted to double check that the resistors wouldn't be different.

Edward

Finally had time to take a good look at your notes and my wiring diagram. Looks like you have found me a cheap solution! So I just need a 12V 3ohm 50W resistor in place of each solenoid in the wiring diagram; 1,2,and 3(pin 120, 106, 130) paralleled, and 4, and 5(pin 107, 129) paralleled back to pin 77 and 89?

To answer your questions, those are the only trouble codes i found. No drive-ability issues, my Sport is a 2001 ES model.

Thanks for being so thorough in your research, and very well documented!

No worries. Don't have much choice when documenting this stuff - can't keep it all straight in my head like when I was younger.

Yea, don't thank me until it works.

Pin 50 off the PCM triggers the A/T Control Relay which supplies 12Vpos (B+) to Pin 77 and 89 as well as supplying B+ to the five resistors (solenoids).

I don't know how much you have left of the original harness. IF you still have the A/T Control Relay - it was supposed to supply B+ to the solenoids as well as pins 77 and 89.

As I remember the diagrams, the harness runs to the transmission and solenoids. So, if all of that is still in place, all you need are the resistors. They would need to be wired in place of the solenoids. So, figure out what the pin-outs on the transmission harness connector(s) are and which would connect to the solenoids and then replace with resistors.

You're going to have to be careful where you put these. They can't be stuck under the vehicle where they'll get wet or covered in crud. Inside the cab where they won't get wet would be best. Keep in mind, that these are going to get hot probably so they need air space to 'breath' - we're talking 4 amps to a solenoid, so .... Take care or you could really fry something.

Did you disconnect the original harness from the transmission and then leave the input and output speed sensors plugged into the harness? I'm just curious why you're not getting P codes from those if they're missing. That SHOULD trigger a code.

If you want, PM me with a mailing address and I'll send you the '99 harness I have. You can salvage the resistors. They're brand new and already wired, which may or may not make your life somewhat easier.

Dang. Forgot. These are pin-outs for '99 (3.5L). I don't know what the '01 3.0L pin-outs are. I don't think they're different, but ....

This worked

Finally had some garage time today, took a couple hours and i was driving around with no trouble lights!!

Mounted them on an aluminum plate. They get hot, I could only touch them for 1 second, I may have to relocate them or make a heat sheild so no one gets burned.

Thanks again Edward.

Dang! I missed this somehow. You're welcome! I'm glad to see that worked as I expected.

Ah, yea, that's what I was afraid of. Figured they'd get pretty hot.
