I have a Sony CDX-M730 and I love it... and it's my second Sony Head Unit... never had a problem with my first ES unit... and after 2 years I sold it on ebay for $250!
Shame Sony discontinued their high-end ES line

I just got a Alpine 60 watt per channel and seems to be ok. It is only 3 weeks old so not sure about longevity. I can tell you it has some serious power though, the sound improvement is quite amazing too, over the stock headunit.

Those newer SONY's might be nice, I had the $250 dollar one (this was a few years ago) and that thing screwed up non-stop. I think it was the CDX C6000. And I had an older one (can't remember the model number) and it skipped all the time as well, not to mention it burnt up a few times. I've had Pioneer, Sony , and Panasonic and I love my Panisonic the most. I'm not saying the new SONY ones are bad, because I haven't used them, I'm just telling my experience with SONY.

Jonathan, I think that was true with the less expensive Sony's.

The deck I have is the "ES" line and comes standard with a 3 year warrantee on it.

It was close to $500 also, so I think the high end Sony line did not have some of the problems the lower ones did.

I do know that MP70 deck I want has some pretty good reviews on it.

Reapur on the board here is really upto date on all this stuff, and knows which decks had problems.

Yeah I wasn't thinking he wanted to go with real high-end stuff so that's why I said that. I got away from the cheaper head units myself, it's just easier to pay for one really good unit then to have pay to switch out every couple of years for a new one. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, Stay away from the cheaper Sony equipment. Is everybody happy now?

Heres the one I bought 3 days ago. I like it so far but wish I would have gotten the KDC919, too pricey tho, its so nice.

I'm running an ALPINE in dash 3 disc changer/radio. I love it.

The cool thing is you can buy extra magazines for it as well.
