Thinking about this some more. If a steering dampner is put on steering that has play it is going to magnify the existing steering concerns by removing the smooth operation that the "play" would allow it to have. Possibly even creating a hazardous situation if all forces come into play at the wrong moment/second.
It has to be thought about in all extremes, surfaces, weather, etc. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

A good stabilizer is invisible at normal steering wheel speeds. They have a velocity sensing valve that only puts the dampening effect into action at higher wheel rim speeds than you can manage with arm strength.
