Body Damage is Cool

I just recently did a ton of engine work on my lwb and I was one step away from removing the heads and replacing the head gasket. All the tear down to the heads is very straight forward. I think it pretty much was all 14mm and 12mm bolts holding it all togethor. especially if you are not in a rush and take your time taking parts off and clean the m up as you go. It will be very satisfing when you put it all togethor.

After a lengthy discussion with a mechanic friend of mine here, I'm leaning towards cutting my losses on the LWB. If anyone would be interested in it for parts or as a project, let me know. Otherwise, I'm probably going to call the repair shop in Amarillo by Friday and tell them I'll send them the title, and send it to the salvage yard and send me the money.
I'll still have the SWB back in VA, and based on my current situation, that will have to do. The money I would've spent getting it shipped back here to Cali, and either fixing it here or getting it fixed in Amarillo, I could just look for something here that's already smog-legal.
Chalk that one up to experience...

Ouch.
Want to check one more thing, maybe? See what it would cost to have it shipped to Phoenix.
We'd fix it for ya. Just check on the transport, don't worry about the rest just yet.

John B. Just sent an email to the company that had the lowest quote. We'll see what the number is from Amarillo to Phoenix, and thanks for giving me another option, didn't see that one coming!

I'll certainly give it to them as partial trade for helping to fix the LWB...just have to pack 'em up and ship them to AZ from VA...

What a joke...the company with the lowest quote ($599), which was based on the assumption that I'd get it repaired in Amarillo and it could be driven on and off the transporter, wants $875 to ship the non-op LWB from Amarillo to Phoenix. WTF, over?!

Not sure of the limitations out of state but my AAA card when unused gives me 4 calls 3 at 100 miles & 1 at 200 miles. Card cost $135 for the premier.
Are you subscribed to a towing plan of any sort?
Those AZ guys sound like the best bet if tranportation can be managed. The shop rates in Calif can be pretty steep. It would cost more than that to have it fixed in SOCAL. A flight to Phx is pretty cheap in comparison.

I ended up having GEICO tow me into Amarillo, instead of AAA, because only the first 3 miles were free on the AAA plan I had, anything over that was $6/mile. The truck is insured thru GEICO, and they towed me in to Amarillo for free.
That's a good idea, but GEICO will only tow me to the nearest "repair facility", which most likely will be the nearest Mitsubishi dealer because of the blown head gasket(s).
I agree, having the AZ crew get their mitts on it sounds like it'll be diagnosed and repaired correctly. Only problem is getting it to them...

The lwb can't be driven onto a hauler? I would think driving it a short distance wouldn't be a problem?
That is a total ripoff though.
