Getting the Wheeling Fever
I want to keep it as simple as possible but a replacement engine for my '91 is not as plentiful as some other years. What are my options? Checked the FAQ's and searched but could not find a straight forward answer.

Almost any mitsu built 3.0 (caravan, 3000GT, Hyundai Sonata, Mitsubishi Diamante) Also, Nate is swapping a 3.5 Gen2 engine into his Gen1. Ive heard that pretty much any Montero with a 3.X motor would mechanically swap over, but then you have to deal with the wiring, so I think that would include a 3.8 Mivec in the last model sold in the US. I also believe OldColt swapped a 3.8 block with 3.5 DOHC heads into his Gen2, so I don't see that being too much more of a deal to swap into a Gen1.

I think any 3.0 sohc 12v block will fit, with the fwd blocks needing a little massaging to fit, stuff like the oil filter is on the new dside engine mount pad, all pretty easy to fix if you are at all handy.

What exactly is wrong with yours? broke or worn out, and if broke, how bad and where?

If the block on yours is sound, especially if the block and rods and crank are ok or fixable, I think the best route is a local rebuild on your core. We KNOW how to do this on this board. Take a look at "Bob's 3.0 engine" by FrankR for a most exhaustive treatment of how to do it all the best way possible, a truly blueprinted engine. Way too good for Bob . You can build a sound, long lived engine for less than Frank did, but you must follow some of his steps to be safe. If you find a machine shop who will listen, you'll get a damn fine motor. These will do 300k with proper care, easy. FINE motors if you keep them cool and oil them well.

There you go again Eddy promoting greasy, dirty knuckles for the next several weeks. I am looking for something with less miles, but with no garage on site I am looking for the quickest way to do it in a donor garage. Also FWD or 4WD doesn't matter?

Body Damage is Cool
So what is the possibillity of putting in a 3.8. I thought I read somewhere that the 3.8 was tied into the transmission with the computer, much like the 5.7 and the 4L60 Chevrolet have to work together, which I am much more familiar with. I've been looking for a 3.5 since SRTNaye started his, with no luck without buying the whole truck. Is the 3.8 a stand-alone set-up does anyone know?
