Getting the Wheeling Fever
Finally got to fit my new snorkel this weekend.

First, what was in the box.
[Linked Image]
The snorkel, length of flexible hose, a bag containing 3 studs, 3 nuts, bracket and screw, and the template, and lots of Taiwanese newspaper packing. No instructions and no hose clamps.

The Air filter box with the air baffle still connected. It has to go. Filter box shows why I need a snorkel.

Baffle gone and holes plugged. Much more room. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Template in place on guard. I removed the wheel to give more room to remove the plastic inner guard and get at the mounting studs.

Closer look at the template. Maybe they are the instruction.

Past the point of no return. I hope the template was right.. It wasn't. The mounting holes had to be elongated to fit the mounting studs.

The hose connection on the snorkel is about 60mm. I had a 63mm and a 74mm hole saw. I used the larger to allow for a bit of movement for alignment.

Looking good so far. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> I really like the fininsh on these newer snorkels. They do look better than mine. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" />

Good to see some one else modifying a Sporty inOz. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />

Is that an ECB bull bar on yours? Could you post a front on photo. Do ECB still makethese bars as they are no longer listed on their website along with TJM.

I really wish we could get a winch compatible one. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Don't forget to post up the finished result.

I wonder if Tim will update his photo on his website of the newer snorkel fitted to a Sporty instead of mine? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

Cheers, Chris <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

View up under the guard. I used Locktite on the studs and nuts so they don't vibrate loose.

[Linked Image]
Hose in place through guard. I used the same 74mm saw. It was still a very tight fit for the hose, but there is not a lot of room between the wheel tub and a box section at the top of the inner guard. Could possibly go to a maximum of 80mm.

[Linked Image]
Another angle on the hose connection to the filter box. I used the original clamp on this end. I used a stainless hose clamp with nylon lock nut for the connection under the guard. Don't want anything coming loose up under the guard were you can't see it easily.

The finished job. there is a small bracket that screws to the snorkel and slips in behind the the door rubber on the "A" pillar. I used a self drilling screw to secure.

I am by no means a mechanic or have any were near the workshop skills of some on this forum, but am very happy with the finished job. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I have noticed that the photos from the other Aussie guys that have bought snorkels from Out Door Auto 4X4 have "VTTR" on the snorkel the one in the picture on the site has "?? Elephant" and mine has "Venus", so am guessing that mine is possibly a little different from the earlier ones.

The left over bits, bound for the bin.

Yes it is a ECB bar. I've had it for quite a while now. I thought the ECB bar looked better and had better clearance then the TJM bars. I see if I can remember to take a photo and post up. Big bum.

Thanks for the feed back. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />
