Check for cracks on the Vac lines for the fuel pressure regulator. Sisters blazer wouldn't budge until I replaced it. Same went for my Montero after the rebuild I didn't have the line connected and it wouldn't start because of it.

Monday update: I did as MX suggested and got to the fuel pick up line. Given how it is attached and where a metal bracket/support is, I Could only see 2/3 of the hose. But what I could see looked like the hose was like new. No cracks or anything like that.

MX: Can I borrow that spare ECU you have and test it out?

you removed the fuel pump from the tank and looked at the 2 inch hose going from the fuel pump to the steel fuel tube in the tank ????

If the rubber fuel line from the tank to the frame mounted steel line has a crack, you will see it, a roaring spray of raw fuel.

Mx is talking about the small rubber hose INSIDE the tank, which you get at this way. Using flare nut wrenches, remove the fuel lines from the plate on the tank, disconnect any electrical connectors and unclamp and remove any small vent lines. Then remove the screws that hold the plate that holds the fuel lines, the pump, and the fuel pickup from the tank/plate, rap the plate sharply to break the gasket seal, and pull it out of the tank. It's several inches long down into the tank, and you'll see the two fuel lines, the fuel pump, and the fuel pickup screen, all hosed and clamped together. The small rubber hoses that splice the pump into the fuel lines must be suction tight on the pickup side, and pressure tight with clamps on the output side. MX is talking about the one on the engine side of the pump. It can have intermittent leaks that kill pressure, mostly temp dependent.

Just to confirm, this is what I did:

1. Pull carpeting back
2. Remove access plate
3. disconnect electrical harness on big access plate
4. Remove small nuts from said plate (maybe six or eight of them)
5. Without disconnecting the two fuel lines, pulled entire unit out about 4 inches or so (I could see the gasoline/liquid), looked into the hole with a light and I could see a 2" or so rubber hose in the middle, below which was a mental attachment I believe

Anyway, this is the hose I looked at and it was wet and looked new to me...as in not worn out. Obviously the car was not running and the fuel tank had released all the pressure when I lifted the top plate.

So are we talking about the same item?
