Getting the Wheeling Fever
My 4Runner's dash door ajar light has been on for a week. All doors appear to be locked properly and they can be manually unlocked as well. It looks that the hatchback door is the culprit. Because the rear door light is on. I had to manually turn it off to prevent battery from draining. I tried to locate a door switch but failed to do so. Can anybody know where I can find it? I guess the switch could be wrong. I know I will have to check the fuse too. Thanks.

If you have the cargo carpet mat, that can protude enough to keep it from latching. I have to scoot mine forward once in awhile. Shouldn't stick out past the plastic at all.

No I don't have cargo carpet mat or anything else sticking out.

Update: I took apart the back door assembly trying to find door switch. But all saw was backdoor ECU and motor. I also took apart the door lock and lubricated it heavily. No luck at all. I ended up pulling the 15A fuse to disable the back door open warning when engine is off, which prevent battery from draining. I guess I will keep digging...

Well I got a bit curious yesterday; the latch on the bottom of the hatch, when closed with a screwdriver will turn off the door ajar light on your dashboard.

It didn't relatch when I was done, so charged the lock/unlock a couple of times and got it reopened to shut and latch, so don't panic about that part when you're done.

Just to ask and rule it out, is the cargo light in the ON, rather than DOOR position?

I did try to turn off the door ajar light by using a screwdriver. But the door ajar light was still on.

If I set the cargo light in DOOR position, it will remain on forever, which is consistent with dash door ajar light. Currently I set it in OFF position.

Thanks for your help, kewlynx.

Interesting. Sounds like a switch or relay has gone wonky on you, esp if the DOOR position is staying on.

IIRC, there should be electrical diagrams in one of the FSM's hosted at www.ncttora.com; give a look.
