Lately my 98 full size has developed an issue where the rear door is very difficult to open.
Pressing the "handle" to open the door still functions properly, but when I then try to open the door I have to use two hands and pull really really hard.
It is also difficult to close and I have to put all my body weight behind it.
I tried lubing the hinges but that didn't work too well.
Anyone else ever experience this? It's kind of PITA.

Mine was badly seized when I bought it. Door only opened about 2 inches. I just repeatedly shot PB Blaster at both hinges, slowly working the door back and forth, watch gobs of rust drip out...and repeat. Did it for a good 20 minutes and gradually got it to open all the way - and smoothly!
Stupid design. I think some people have drilled and tapped in zerk fittings so they can grease them up easily. Anyone of a photo of that? Or other suggestions?

The outside handle is usually difficult to use, just before it breaks... They are plastic, and around $50 from the dealer. I had the same issue on my Gen 2.5 and once it broke, and I replaced it, and all was fine. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Interesting. I haven't had any issues with mine. Still operates normal.
Is yours getting hung up on the latch when it closes or dragging the whole way when you open & close?

I have got a V45W. Should be the same as the Gen2.5 over there. I got one lower hinge worn out and had to change out the hinge just to get the rear door to fit correctly. When it was wearing down, the rear door was gradually hanging lower at the handle end and was rubbing on the stainless steel bumper plates.

It's not the actual handle or latch that seem to be the problem. In fact, the handle functions fine and the door "pops" open as it should when you depress the handle.
The problem is once the door is slightly ajar, it is very difficult to open the rest of the way. When the door is fully open, it is very difficult to push shut.
I've lubed the hinges as best I could with WD-40, and it didn't do much.
I think it must be the hinges.
I like the idea of replacing the lower hinge, and I will probably try that when I get the time.
Thanks for the responses.

Also check the "hold open" bar below the door, and lube it also.
