Well the verdict is in. They said it's shot all the way around. Splines are worn and CV is busted. I'm debating ebay and junk yards, but either way it's going to be 30+ years old. Anyone know where I can find a new one for a stock lifted 1980 4x4 on 31" tires? He quoted me 1400 for a custom, told him I'd have to sleep on it.

$1400 for a driveshaft? Something there is off. I'm assuming that includes a lot of labor etc.
Does it need to be a custom length? With only 31" tires I'd think the OE would work just fine, unless the lift is a lot.

Wait, is this one of the old trucks that were 4x2 from factory and converted in the US?
