I believe the thread and gasket diameter of the newer honda filter is compatible with our oil filter flanges, but I'm not sure yet. I'll check it out next oil change at the shop I work at. But you'd probably have to use the newer honda oil filter style as the older one has a larger diameter shell.

fram 3593 the common older honda filter
[protec 152]

fram 7317 the newer (smaller) honda filter
[protec 164 I think]

I've noticed that WM only carries our 5343 in a PH and they go off the shelf quickly cause of their limited shelf capacity for that filter. I remember seeing the 7317 in variety of styles.. extra guard, tough guard, etc. Like I said. I'm not certain they fit, but I'm willing to buy one and try next time.. worst that will happen is when I try it, the filter pops off while reving the motor to pressure check it which I normally don't do but would for a unsuggested filter.

Nearest stealer for me makes the fuel price to get there and back more than buying the K&N filter. That is why I started buying the WIX filter. It's the KIA filter, but less than what the stealer wants for it and I don't have to pay for fuel to get there. Just stop by the parts store on the way home from work and they have it on the shelf.

Win, win, win for me.

There is a dealer 5 min from where I work so that's why I got it there. I come to find out over the weekend that O'Reilly's keeps 99% of their WIX filters behind the counter. It would be nice if they would post a sign telling you that.

Yep. Found that out the hard way too. The web site location locater helps a lot. Put in your zip and it will tell you if it's in stock or not.

What part of Alberta? I'm in Edmonton, felt the same way about the styling at first... If it doesn't grow on you though, I know of a guy who wants to buy one.

Thanks for all the responses. I did the timing belt sticky listed here . And it did in fact clear up my piston slap hesitation problems. changed the plugs and belts . did the throttle body clean . and did a seafoam clean . the KIA runs great now.
Problems I encountered were I overtightened and broke a crank pulley bolt and did the same and cracked the waterneck. luckly i found a used one.

The Kia is a pretty good offroader and I even had to pull out my buddies 09 explorer.
I got a WAAG brushbar off kijiji for $5!! it has no bracket kit so i'm fabricating some at work.
Future mods will be . F-150 Rims and better tires , Warn manual hubs. LED off road lights. I got a Sunfire Electric fan to swap in . (Detailed step by step wire up anybody??)
.
On a side note the Calgary KIA dealership sales are the most ignorant people I have ever met . Not interested in bringing in parts and were generally useless/un helpful.
"Gee sorry your products lasted 11 years!!"
the sportage is now my daily driver and look forward to future mods.

Be carefull when get your F150 wheels, I know some don't beleive this but the F150 wheels has a smaller center hole and will not fit the Sportage. If you find after market F150 wheels you should not have this problem. There are some here that say they are running F150 wheels but when they post pics they are look-a-likes. If the wheels have the three screw holes for the center cap they will not fit, if they don't have the three holes they just look like F150 wheels. Everet machined his out to fit so if you have a way to do that you will be ok.

95 Sportage, gone but not forgotten.
98 Jeep TJ, 4" Zone springs with RC Long arms, Ford 8.8", 4.56 gears & Detroit locker rear, D30, 4.56 & Detroit Trutrack front.

Lucky SOG got his for free :P.. I'm jealous! And now.. he knows too much!! He likes it!!! lol. Sportages definitely do grow on you. I'm not a Kia fan myself, but I liked mine ALOT better when i learned the motor design is Mazda.. So I call mine a Kiazda Sportege smile
Yes, the engine is gutless under 4000, but it's not too bad once you learn to trust 5,500rpm. Hell , I rev limit mine without a single worry. Probably why after SIX YEARS and 152k orig miles it's starting to burn oil past the rings. Now yes, this may be abuse, but being that I have a spare motor that I'm (slowly) working on, I'd say I'm a responsible person. I do think ahead!
But I can't help it. Put a nice flowmaster or similar nicely tuned muffler on, gut the cats, and slap a Cold Air/Ram Air intake on, and it's just wrong not to do a flyby to a lifted huge 4dr truck. I'm lifted with 235's so it doesn't look completely rediculous when I pass them looking like a mini-mudder and yet sounding like an angry street bike.. Seriously it sounds sick at W.O.T. I usually get a hat tip from them or a 'hell ya!', lol. I'll have to get some video of it.

To update I bought the Warn manual hubs. What an easy install !! And they work great too. Anyways My back tires are a bit wore out . Will 235/75R15 work on a stock rim ?
No luck finding used rims . Will keep looking.
