Where to get a replacement seatbelt? #1033234 08/16/11 09:01 AM

I am looking to replace the belt and clip of the front passenger 3 point retractable seatbelt on a 1994 Mitsubishi Montero LS. The old belt was cut in half and the half with the old clip is missing.

My town no longer has a Mitsubishi dealer or parts vendor.

Can anyone suggest a vendor or junkyard that might have one?

The buckle apparatus (left of the seat and next to the center console) is still in place and working fine. The door post fitting is in place and working fine. The retractor on the base of the door post is probably still working fine as well.

Where are the Gen Is you had?

Need a Spot

Most salvage yards have some type of listing system to track parts, and a lot of them are tied into national databases. I've had really good luck with Car-Parts.com, but there are lots of others. Just point your favorite seararch engine toward 'salvage yard parts locator', and you can find others.

BTW, I found dozens of them ranging from $15-55, in a wide variety of colors.

Hi Rxinhed - Long time....

Thanks for your offer to help. I got a lead on a local belt at a yard here. I will know for sure in a day or so.

About my stable of Gen 1s: At one point I had two good ones that were for my daughters' use (although I admit I really like driving them too). Well, one daughter moved to S.F. without taking hers and the other went to college leaving the second Monty behind. About that time I found a really nice '93 Gen2. So I had three Monty's in the driveway but only one Monty driver. My wife, who does not drive a Monty, told me I could only keep one (we don't have a yard to keep them around). So I sold the two Gen 1s to good families. I see them happily tooling around town. I sold one to a neighbor so we see it everyday (which my wife does not mind as long as it is not in her driveway).

So now I am down to two Gen 2's (one I drive and the other is in Montana).

I don't know if I ever posted "the rest of the story", which goes like this: (and forgive me if I have told this already) With only one Montero in the driveway, the woman who let's me live with her, says to me "You could get yourself a nice car if you wanted." Thinking the '93 Gen 2 was a pretty nice car (and it is) I replied: "What kind of car do you have in mind?"

The next day at work she sends me, as a joke, an email with a Craigslist link to a 1960 Bentley for sale. She shouldn't have sent it. We bought it.

A year later and many thousands poorer, I have a gorgeous garage yacht that only comes out on sunny Sundays. My '93 Gen 2 remains my daily driver - and probably will be for a long, long time.

Wow. Great lead and great prices. I have a lead on a belt at a local yard. If this does not work out, I will contact car-part.com.

Thanks.

Va_Stumpy -

I had a couple of '89's and '91's. All of them had the same seatbelt issue: They would not retract without a little help. I taught myself to not slam the door on them.

Thanks for the eBay tip.
