I need to change the timing belt and was looking at this kit

Looking at the kit it looks like it has all that's needed, but have any one of you use this type of kit before? If so does it have all the gaskets needed to complete the task?

I will change the plugs at this time also.

I wished they had kits for older models.

I think I was somewhere under $500 back when I did the 95 a year and a half ago. That was for a mix of name brand aftermarket from RockAuto, plus a few o-rings and hoses from the dealer. Gaskets were FelPro. This included all the hoses under the hood- heater, water on the intake, fuel rail o-rings/grommets. The whole she-bang, except coil-packs. Just have to piece it all together.

^++ I don't trust fleabay unless they list manufacturer. I prefer to put my own kit together with name brand aftermarket and OEM, especially with a job that requires so much time and labor.

It does say the manufactures on some of it. Just multiple for each (this is the exact spellings).

Timing Belt Bando, Contitech, Mitsuboshi,
Tensioner GMB, Koyo, NTN
Water Pump NPW, GMB, Aisin, Paraut
Drive Belts Bando, Contitech

But nothing for the gaskets. I agree, it's iffy. Lotta work to take a chance.

I started to collect parts for the tune up. I am trying to hold off till I buy a Del Sol for gas/fun/school car, but the wife doesn't like that idea. I want to replace everything also being it has 164,000 ish miles and from MN. The wife drives it just a few miles a day back and forth to work so it doesn't kill us in gas and rack the miles. It's too hot here in TX so I finally got the windows tinted which helps alot cooling the huge cab.

OK....it's brand"X". It isn't internal & it will probably last 50,000 miles or so. You gotta ask yourself;do you want it to last forever or just 5 years.If it's the latter ...I say give it a try.Are timing belts REALLY that difficult to replace?Just my 2 cents...Counting current inflation, that should be worth...like.025 cents. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Don't forget to check out Rockauto.com's prices too. The Gates kits that have OE components on them actually do have OE components (Koyo Japan) but the belt is a USA belt, I've used them before and will continue to do so.

I did just that the other day and found all the parts needed and the cost turn out to be $269.84 with a $28.34 shipping charge for a grand total of $298.18. This is less the three drive belts.

MitsubishiParts.net wanted $102.22 for the timing belt plus $12.27 for shipping. I had to past on such a deal. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
