FWIW some of the original (OEM) drive belts on the old 86 I had were labeled as "Mitsuboshi". I've noticed this on other OEM mitsu trucks too.

It's pay day so I order a few thing for the timing belt change from Rock Auto for the Cat.

Upon inspection, while changing oil, I found the boots to be in need of replacement also. So while replacing them I will upgrade to 4.6x gears. I have the front and rear diff's ready to go in.

It only took me four days to do this little job <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />, but the cat is purring like a kitten. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Everything had to be cleaned and spotless and the rubber seals had to be replaced on the plastic covers and .........

My hands look like I've been a cat fight and lost. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Need a Spot
Hi Grasscat,

I'm getting ready to do this job. I priced the parts at the two Mitsubishi dealers closest to me and just the parts in the Gates timing belt kit are over $600, so I'm going to go the route you did with Rockauto.

A couple questions:

The Fel-Pro cam seal part no. TCS45704 appears to have two front seals in it. Is that the case or do I need to buy two?

When replacing the rocker cover gaskets is it necessary to remove the intake/plenum or was changing the intake and plenum gaskets a preventative measure?

Fel-Pro vs. Victor Reinz, is one better quality than the other?

Thanks for your advice,

Clem

There are two in the package.

You need to remove the intake plenum. There's no way to remove the cover if you don't.

I don't know. Your guess is as good as mine. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Either will be sufficient. I've never seen any real quality differences between the 2 manufacturers.

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

Grasscat & Hazy Daze,

I guess I'll go with the least expensive option, since there are no known issues with quality.

Thank you both for replying to my questions.
