Sorry don't have pics-but it's simple. 1. Mark all the connections since they all are on top of intake. Loosen the bolts-there is a few hoses/fittings around the throttle body and EGR tube. Upper piece of intake and Butter fly comes off in 1 piece, Clean the crap out of everything and replace with new gaskets. better yet- there is a whole rightup on here that somebody did a few yrs ago . Even had the gaskets/parts you need and relative cost (may have changed a bit) here: http://www.4x4wire.com/mitsubishi/tech/lower_plenum/

I think I will just go with what eddy said and seal up the ends. Im not so interested in top-end as I am in torque and bottom end. Then you need to replace the plenum. By opening the butterfly valves, which is the position they are in when no vacuum is applied, i.e., when the vac line is pulled, you are running the truck on the short/high-speed runners. John B.

Well, I went out and played with the vac line and did some driving and I have to tell you, it runs a LOT cleaner in the low to mid range with the vac line hooked up and working.Since I don't run pedal to the medal much (i'm a crawler-what can i say) the difference is very apparent off idle. Fortunately, it appears on this new SR (to me) that someone already replaced the plenum as everything is tight, no apparent airleaks etc. Has 122k on it. One thing that I DO have tho, is an intermittent clicking from the passenger side rear cylinder area. Sounds like a lifter not being fully pumped up, but it comes and goes. I wonder if that hydraulic lifter back there has some crud stuck in it. Going to do full engine flush with new oil tomorrow so we'll see if that solves it. Otherwise rest of truck seems to be working great, so guess I got lucky again.

Sort of an update: My a-retentive brother took my spare lower plenum and is taking it to a machine shop he favors to ask them about making/installing new bushings for it. I'll let everybody know what takes place.
