The $1 fix. Crank the wheel to one side and turn it off/lock the wheel. Look carefully at the entire steering linkage to see where the steering stop is; grease that spot. Do the same for the other side. It'll last for a bit.

Stock, there were rubber bits at the contact points, but they wear away. Amazingly loud and annoying, isn't it?
