Does anyone know if there is any huge differences between the KM145 put in the Montero and the KM145 put in the 4x4 Ford Rangers from 1988 to 94ish?
The Ranger transmissions are a lot more common around here and I was wondering if it would be a direct swap. I would assume the input shaft would be different, but I do not know.
Thank you, Ryan

I think the FM145 has a different bell housing. They put it behind Ford 2.9 V6s.

If I remember correctly the FM145 has a removable bell housing, and it will not mate to the Mitsu transfer case. Spencer has one behind is MM diesel, but uses a divorced Atlas transfer case.

I knew you guys would know. Thank you! I am pretty sure I want to rebuild it or have it rebuilt now that I have thought about it. I figure get it done right and then I won't have to worry about it again.
Thanks again, Ryan

He has one from a diesel ranger with the 4d55. It has the correct bolt pattern for a 2.6, but good luck finding one. They didn't use the FM145 up until 1994. The Fm145 was on older early to mid-80s rangers. The M5OD was used in the late 80s and into the 90s IIRC.

If anybody wants it, I would for sure sell it. Doubtful I'll get around to using it.

If I remember correctly the FM145 has a removable bell housing, and it will not mate to the Mitsu transfer case. Spencer has one behind is MM diesel, but uses a divorced Atlas transfer case. As stated above, I mated the FM145 behind my 2.3 diesel so that I could marry an Atlas T-case to my FM145 transmission. Due to the design the KM145 it is not possible to marry it to an Atlas transfercase. The biggest between the two transmission is the slave cylinder. The FM145 uses an internal slave cylinder and the KM145 uses an external slave setup. This may not seem like a big deal, but it is a big difference. Because of this, the Ford master cylinder's bore is much larger. I could go on and on about the differences, but the reality is, to convert from transmission to the other, modifications need to be made to the tunnel, firewall, master cylinder, speedo cable, driveshafts, frame and crossmembers, flywheel, clutch, slave cylinder and starter. It all adds up and before you know it, it can get really expensive. Spence
