I ordered a Redline snorkel kit from a company called JAM Engineering (http://jameng.com/products/), for the Weber 32/36 DFEV carb I'm running. When the kit arrived and I went to install it, I realized the snorkel base was not designed for the DFEV carb. It was my mistake, because I didn't see that the snorkel kit was for the DG-series carbs.

So I was looking at the base of the snorkel plate, the top of the DFEV carb, and the gasket for the Redline rectangular air filter, trying to figure out if there was a way I could get it to work. The obvious answer to me was to get some kind of adapter plate made, that would bolt to the holes on the top of the carb, then the snorkel bottom would bolt to the adapter.

I called John Moulton at JAM Engineering (he's the J and M part), and we discussed some possible solutions. He asked me to mail the snorkel bottom back to him, and he'd see what he could do. He was busy with some things going on at the Pebble Beach Concourse up in Monterey, but he eventually got around to working on my snorkel plate.

Long story short, I got the snorkel plate in the mail today, and John had modded the bottom to fit the DFEV carb. He was able to get only three of the four mounting holes to line up, but the plate fits pretty snug regardless. I used a Uni foam filter, part #UP-4229, and attached it to the stock air inlet at the front right inner fender, then attached some 3" flex ducting to the rubber hose that came with the snorkel kit.

So for you folks that are running the Weber 32/36 carb, and want to run a snorkel kit, there is hope! I'd highly recommend contacting John at JAM Engineering. Mention my name, and see what he can do for ya!

Nice, so what is the price for such a beautiful piece of fabrication?

Per the website, online price is $120. The kit includes the snorkel base, snorkel top, the black rubber hose, two clamps, four mounting bolts, and the bolt that attaches the snorkel top to the bottom. I think John would mod the snorkel base to fit a DFEV carb at little or no cost, since mine was the test mule. Wouldn't hurt to ask!

I'm all for snorkels & glad John is willing to go the extra mile for his customers. The casting for the carb adapter looks great. But does anyone else think that the silver tube looks like a dryer hose? Maybe that's how they should look.... I haven't seen that many snorkel installs where I am.I hope it's fully functional.

The kit ends at the black rubber hose. I bought the flex ducting and Uni foam filter. That flex ducting could be used for dryer hose, similar stuff. I used that ducting because it's got a 3" ID, which fit VERY snugly over the Uni foam filter. The air filter that came with the carb kit was an open rectangular one, so it was taking in hot air from the engine. At least this way, the incoming outside air should be significantly cooler, which should be better for the engine.

I took a short test drive after I installed this kit, and didn't notice any significant change one way or the other. It's not as loud as the open rectangular filter, that's about the only thing I noticed. Before, when I had the left corner dash vent open, I could hear the intake noise from the engine compartment. Now, I don't hear anything coming from the carb.

I'm sure if someone wanted to run an actual snorkel, this kit would be a good way to go. Just have to be sure to put a filter somewhere between the external snorkel intake and the snorkel housing on top of the carb.

Oh..OK. Not an insult....just an observation. I probably wouldn't have thought of that. Glad it's working for you.It will be heat resistant & repair parts are readily available @ Home Depot.

No worries...after owning several Italian motorcycles, my mind thinks in a different way when it comes to things like this, lol!

What part of VA are you in? I'm in Norfolk, just off Chesapeake Blvd, between Little Creek and Bay View. I have a set of 15x7 Toyota 4Runner wheels I got off Craig's List, and painted them with some black bedliner coating. I'm planning on getting the 265/75 Dunlop Rovers swapped from the stock 15x6 Mitsu alloys I have on there now (not the same ones in my sig pic). I'll post some "before and after" pics once that's done.
