IIRC, others mentioned you need to use a combination of U-joints and extensions to get to those bolts but then again that may have been for the 2.6L.

I'm sure others have taken out their 3.0L though so they should chime in. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Great time to install a body lift. Even if you don't do that, it'd probably be worth your time to just undo the body mount bolts and jack the body off the frame a bit. Might add an hour to the project if you're taking your time.

Once I had my engine fully detached from everything (except for the trans) and hanging on the engine hoist, I was able to wiggle it around enough to easily get to all of the bell-housing bolts.

You might need to detach the trans from the frame too, to make it more wiggle-able.

Body Damage is Cool
Wobble extensions and open-end/closed/end wrenches.

Remove the tcase from the tranny. Let the tranny output drop. Go over the top of the tcase with lotsa extensions with at least one wobble at the socket end. You can't see jack, so a helper with skinny hands to noodle the socket onto the bolt is nice. I have a pretty good average of hitting it unaided, but I think that's luck.

For the two 4-doors I've parted, I removed the engine first, then dropped the trans & t-case while still attached to the cross member. Once the trans/t-case was down, I jacked up the left side of the frame and pulled the assemblies out. Took about 1 hour on the first car, 3 on the second due to more things needing removal (auto vs. stick).

Once the lower intake is off, the engine is easily unbolted from the top of the bellhousing. Once the exhaust crossover is unbolted and the starter removed, the side and bottom bellhousing bolts are easy.

Ratcheting wrenches ,multiple extensions & swivels make it "easier".....I removed the radiator & all the goodies from the front of the engine for extra clearance...

Good luck! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />
