Got a new montero needs some work.. but looking at it says 1500lbs towing why due to not much power???? That seems low. My car car do 3200lbs towing??

It's more about safe stopping than it is towing.

FWIW, I flat towed another raider with my diesel raider. Pulled fine, but was a lil scary when it came time to stop. You certainly would NOT be doing any panic stops.

Roll Me Over
I think that's the safe limit of those 4 attachment nuts on the back plate.
I welded a 3500 lb receiver to that back plate, and it works quite well, since it's all part of the frame.

x2 Its the brakes. Montero Sports are rated for 5000lbs with trailer brakes. Trailer brakes, W/D hitch, and a trans cooler you could tow 5000lbs all day. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I pulled 4k with the 95sr, no trailer brakes. Just had to plan the stops and leave interval. Don't tow in rush hour traffic.

I towed the same weight with a gen1v6, but it was too slow. The 3.5 was marginal. This is on N GA hilly stuff. If you live on the flats, the gen 1 would have been tedious, but not too slow. Tow in 3rd mostly, too, on a/t's.

The 2.6 is just too gutless for any hilly towing above 1500lbs or so, for my taste. Too ADDHDDDHDHD...

The two door's wheelbase makes things a bit more sketchy as well.

I had my SR set up for trailer brakes, and that makes life much easier when towing on the freeway, particularly.
