Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey hey there everyone!! Been awhile since I have been prowling around on the site. I've got a small, but very annoying problem that I need help with. I swapped in a 7M last Nov and since I've been battling a heater hose leak. I have several barb splices in place where I mated the 7M heater lines to the pickup lines. I have had problems with only 1/2 of one of the splices! The first time it leaked I promptly tightened it thinking I missed it on the install and that led to a bigger leak. Found out that I managed to over-tighten it and that 1/2 of the splice had actually cracked. I replaced it and tightened it, using much less force and wouldn't you know it a week later I have a leak again!! I removed the splice and noticed that the side of the splice that was leaking had actually taken the shape of an oval. I verified that I had used the right size clamp(worm) and went to the local plumbing supply store to buy a metal splice. Found one the right size and length, installed it and thought it was fixed. Maybe two weeks goes by and damn it all she's leaking again!! I don't know what else to do now! I'm tired of carrying fluid and well it's damn annoying! Any thoughts? As always thanks again for your help.

PS: I have a starting issue that is stumping me, but since it's a 7M I'm not going to post the huge paragraph that would ensue. If anyone feels up to helping with that please let me know and I'll get you up to speed on my problem. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Why are the hoses spliced in the first place? Replace it with all new hose, heater hose is cheap.

exactly which hose ? .. as OPPS mentioned .. I would stay away from splicing , and go with a "replacement" hose

OPPS: I spliced the two heater hoses to mate the lines running to and from the heater system inside the cab to the new engine I installed. At the time it just seemed easier to link the two hoses together. Findind hoses with the right kind of bends seeing as this is not a stock setup anymore is going to be a real pain. I agree that would be best, but probably not going to be doable.

CJM: The hose in question comes from the back of the block right behind and between the valve covers. The splice is between there and where the hose connects to the heat/cold valve on the firewall.

What kind of splices are you using? I have splices in both hoses for the heat exchanger for the on board shower. Did them about ten years ago and they have never leaked. I used regular garden hose splices that I got at Home Depot.
