Been a long time coming for me to finish up my Monty, took a three year hiatus to finish school... it's been sittin for nearly 5 years now.
Anyway, I have just about everything figured out but the fuel supply from the tank. I'm using a Bosch replacement fuel pump for a Starion with a 1/2" inlet, the pickup from the tank is only 3/8" or so. What has everyone done to make this connection? I did a search and read the post from last year about cavitation issues etc. but there was no definitive outcome. Was thinking about welding/ brazing a new 1/2" pickup tube but don't want to put out the effort if it's not worth the trouble.

The gent who converted my MM used an external pump. I can get some photos if that'd be helpful?

It will be fine with the 3/8". You aren't running a track car, and that will supply a hot street ride just fine.

The Bosch / Starion pump that I got to replace my OEM pump works OK... But is really loud.
Bosch decided to use a turbine instead of the rotor type that came from the factory. For the Bosch to work, its spins a lot faster. It's a really annoying whine.
As soon as a get my new shop closed in that pump gets pulled.

That's not really what I wanted to hear about the Bosch 69400 pump but if it works that's what I'm going to use -- just gonna have to put up with the noise. So I guess I'll just go with one of those 1/2" to 3/8" splicer reducer barb fittings like one of these and call it a day. fast fittings

The other thing was the turbine does not seem to prime as well as the mechanical pump. After swapping mine it would not self prime. I had to fill the pump as best I could and then run it.
Not fun. I cant see that it would be a good pump to have if you run out of gas. The design might be better if its run submerged.

Too much clearance in a turbine pump to prime. The impeller is very bad at moving air to create a vacuum to lift the fuel to the pump, and very good at moving the fuel once it gets to the impeller. A vane or geroter pump is not great at moving air, but better than a turbine, so they prime better. I face the same problem with water pumps. A diaphragm pump primes very well, but is not efficient in moving water. They are used to move dirty water and much and sloppy mud. A centrifugal pump is tougher to prime, but moves water very well when primed up, but is stopped by trash way too easy, and requires a strainer on the suction end.
I like Master (Airtex) fuel pumps. I've used the e8000 and the e2315. I think either would do the job for you. They are vane pumps, and under $100.
