An icon of football at Penn State has been ousted for his part in the sex scandal. The move by the university governing board trigger student riots.

Setting aside the question of Coach Paterno's guilt or innocence ( no charges have been filed), the action by the governing board and the reaction of the students leaves a lot questions concerning priorities of the education system.

Apparently successful sports programs are more important than successful education programs.

Would the same response have happened if it were Professor Paterno's rather than Coach Paterno's?

Given our culture, probably not. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

All those clowns would've been boxing up their offices by now.

Tha Asst coach that witnessed an incident has been receiving death threats.

A few questions is all I have.

Is Paterno protected by PA's whistle blower law?

Why did the first witness not pull the bugger off the kid and kick the bugger's head and cojones in and SAVED THE KID!!!

The board does need to be axed, too. Now.

Applying whistleblower protection to Paterno was mentioned on a newscast today with not clear answer.

One talking head said yes, another said no. It might be subject of a court determination.

The grad assistant is no hero. He did not take immediate action and he waited a long time...

I did hear that another witness has stepped forward, a janitor that remained silent because he was afraid of losing his job.

The real stunning part is the number of death threats that have been leveled against those stepping up to take action...

Wow, that in itself is a telling development...

The "missing" DA adds to the story. Could be a coincidence...

As well he should. Had it been my kid, that boy'd be done already.

There's no excuse.

And, the board needs to be oustered too - scape goat or none.
