Just for interest sake. IMHO that's pretty clean for a diesel engine 9000km after it's last oil change. It's just goes to show that a good oil makes a difference.

Agreed. Diesel oil turns from gold to black almost as soon as you pull out of the garage! I'm hoping you needed to do a valve cover gasket? Or maybe you're completing your oil change by getting every last drop, via sponges and paper towels? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Have you tried Rotella? Wonder how it stacks up against Delo?

I agree, it looks pretty good. Viscosity breakdown appears to have occured somewhat. And soot held in suspension seems to be at or near max capacity. How's come you went 4171.968km's overdue? What filter are you using? Do you have the same brands available down there that we have here?

Used oil analysis would give some better information. I looked up Delo to see if they made an 0w-40 as Walmart is not stocking any more and parts stores want way too much. Can get 5w-40 Synthetic which may work as well. I don't know the price yet but will check it out.

At the risk of sounding harsh.... It actually doesn't show anything. You dont have a baseline of what bad oil would look like and what the parts looked like immediately after you put the oil in.

Also , without knowing the wear metal level in the oil, you dont know what was happening such as how did the additive package hold up.

One last comment... One task of the oil in a Diesel is to hold soot in suspension. As far as I know, the generation of the soot is independent of the oil being used.

That said, the better an oil, the more soot it will hold in suspension, the blacker it should look. So if the oil is not black, either you did not generate a lot of soot or it came out of suspension (not a good thing) or you have a special filter.

That's where an oil test would help, since it takes out the subjective of how much soot is in the oil.

Also, oils have been undergoing reformulation to work with newer emissions systems. The anti wear additives have been changed in a number of major lubes. I would make sure your motor is compatible with the additive package in your oil.

Soot particles are held in suspension by dispersant additives in the oil preventing the soot particles from agglomerating (sticking together) and attaching to the rings, pistons and liners. These suspended particles are what turn diesel engine oil black. When too much soot is generated and the additives can no longer keep it suspended, deposits will form on the rings weakening the seal between the pistons and cylinder liners.
