I just fired up a 88 Montero myself and am having the same issue. The vehicle sat for a coupla/few years before I got it, So I'd imagine there is some varnish issue somewhere. Going to take it out and apart and see what's involved, but in short term if it needs replacing I can bet the odometer system will work out great! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />
