Hi All,

Would it hurt anything to put NGK Iridium IX plugs in my 99 Montero (3.5 SOHC)?

I'm buying through Rockauto and the Laser Platinum & Laser Iridium plugs are $9.84 each and the Iridium IX plugs are only $6.38 each, so I was thinking I go with the "enthusiast" iridium plug and save about $20.

Good idea or is this a get what you pay for situation? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for your thoughts, <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I would stick with the factory spec plugs.

I used the NGK Iridium IX's and they seem to be a good plug. Factory spec on my '95 is "platinum-tipped plug," and I regard Iridium plugs as an upgrade. They weren't available when the truck was built. In theory the Iridium-tipped plugs should last longer than platinum ones.

Thanks for your thoughts, gentlemen.

@LRJ4x4 - I agree with you that sticking with the factory spec plug is generally the way to go.

@JohnnyBfromPeoria - Thanks for sharing your experience with the IX plugs.

After further research on forum it seems the consensus is to go with iridium plugs for their longevity as it is a fair bit of work to get to the plugs.

Unless someone shares their poor experience with the IX iridium NGK spark plugs, I will go with JohnnyBfromPeoria's personal experience and put them in my Monty.

Thanks again,

Clem
