went to the racetrack last night, which is where the Kia is, and let it idle. no leak. only when i drove it up to the main gate and back it started leaking. i need to check for end-play of the crank..

So, i bought an 01 Kia Sportage. before i even drove it, i nick-named it The Goat.. it has been just like a goat.. stubbern at every corner...

finally got around to replacing the rear main again. the one that was in there was just a regular autoparts store brand. i bought an OEM kia one. we'll see if this helps. took only about 8 hours total this time. went much smoother. didn't even use the shop manual. third time should be even easier.. i hope i don't have to do this a third time. haven't started it yet.

hahahaa. thanks. i'm starting it up tonight.. if this doesn't fix it, there HAS to be something wrong somewhere that is letting the crankcase build up too much pressure.

actually, before i start it, i'm going to do a compression test. see if my rings are shot.. if they are... i don't know. rebuild or junkyard? i can do the rebuild myself..

do your comp test with all 4 plugs out at the same time, then test one cyl at a time.

yeah. that way the engine turns over more "free". i didn't bother doing the compression test before starting the truck last night. doesn't leak, yet.. we'll see. i've got to drive it around before it starts to leak. i pulled the dip-stick and there isn't anything blowing out practically at all, so it shouldn't be from excess blow-by. we'll see.

good luck dude. i feel your pain. been down that road. pretty frustrating.if it does leak, throw some sawdust in there and sell/trade it. even for another sportage.

i don't know... i think i'll do a junkyard engine in it if it does leak. i've still got some spare cash and haven't spent as much as a "good used" version yet.. i'm close. real close.. but haven't quite yet hit blue book.. engine would push me over, slightly, but i'm ok with that as long as it runs and doesn't leak!!! i'll have to post up my "build" once it's done, from start to finish. it's been work.. a LOT of work..
