I was changing out my horn to get ready for inspection, and found I got the totally wrong one (one wire)and tried to make it work, but gave up to come in and look on the interweb for a way around it. I left the key ON but not running for about 2 hours. When I was done looking for a way around 1 wire vs. 2 wires, I headed out to the parts store to get one off the shelf, not out of a Chevy. Turned the key off and then back to start, started and backing out of the driveway, seemed slow and powerless. 4 blocks down the road, as I was coasting into a parking space... low idle, stall. I sat, started and idled for a se...Stall. On the way back home, stall at the red light, coasting down the street, stall.. I'm hoping that in the morning it will be gone... but I figured I'd throw it out here so Ray could tell me to look in the tech section and Russel could scratch his head while Dave laughs and Frank tells me "You're screwed" :-)

Most of the time, I already know the answer... I just hope I'm wrong.

I'd try disconnecting the negative cable from the battery -- let it sit for a while to let ECU reset then reconnect and see if it will start and hold an idle. Don't know, but it certainly can't hurt <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I agree with Eric.
I've left my key on like that,,,senility can cause that,,,but no harm. Don't know if it could polish off an old main relay( hope that's the woste cause the cheapest), but theres no code for that. Other than that, sit down Joe,,,ECU capacitors got hot.
Electic Gurus , you out there????

on you horn,(never mind if I misunderstood that , part, read fast cause net/laptop probs). weak/primitive simple montero horn ,,it just ground when you push the horn, unlike a good old american truck. I have a 2 horn system off an old truck with an old timey horn relay. Get a cheap beep beep replacement horn to pass inspection. Check for corrosion on horn terminal, sometimes thats all that wrong 'specialy back east.

Maybe cooked the coil? Just a WAG... I'd try resetting the ecu, and other stuff first.

Got to get to this today, took the battery off line, ran an errand, came back and did the horn, powered up, started and it's running fine... maybe better? maybe I'm imagining it.
The inspector was in awe that a rust-free 22 year old Monte was in Massachusetts.
