Methinks I smell a scam. Local Craigslist ad for a JD tractor, attachments, and trailer; $5200. I ask this guy where the stuff is located, as he mentioned shipping. I get this:

Let me explain the process to you..
It will be shipped from Minot and I'll pay the shipping to your location. You will need to send the funds to eBay to provide the transaction protection for both parties. I will start the shipping process the same day I have received notification of the escrow payment. They will hold your payment in escrow and only release it to me once you have received, inspected, and signed the transaction approval provided by eBay for the tractor. You will be allowed 3 inspection days at your address. If the tractor is not as I described, and you decline the transaction, eBay will refund you 100% of the escrow payment and I would be responsible for the return shipping. Tell me your decision and I will contact eBay regarding our transaction. After that, they will send you the information needed to begin the process.

'K, so I ask So why are you using ebay and yet posting on Craigslist? He replies:
I have 6 completed transactions through eBay safe service and I really trust them.

1) This guy doesn't have this stuff listed on ebay at all;
2) NO ONE in their right mind offers to pay shipping up the AlCan for what I figure is about $15K of machinery;
3) I'm not finding anything known as ebay safe service;
4) He did not offer a simple PayPal transaction outside of ebay.

I've already reported him to Craigslist, but am still curious about the 'ebay safe service' as I'm not seeing anything on their site.

Thoughts?

If it looks like a scam, smells like a scam, it's most definitely a scam.

Better yet, send him a cashier's check with runny ink on a Nigerian bank. Scam.

>>>*Ebay does have an escrow service, but only for sales of listings they have.

This sounds like the same guy that was advertising Kubotas on our local C/L site for about 25% of normal. We got him banned but he keeps right on coming back, doesn't even bother to change the photos.

Amazing how some people will work so hard to make half the money they could make if they simply went legitimate....*EB

My thought also.

Ted, good to know. Ebay was the first place I went to check on this guy; no listing, and no tractors posted out of Minot, ND. BTW, his name is Henry Stretton.

I've since told him that I'll work with someone within the same time zone. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />
