For those wondering, the optional trail I'm mentioning starts around Lost Lake (sits on the San Andreas) at 34?16'6.66"N 117?27'45.30"W and runs along the fault.

rxinhed suggested it as an interesting trail. figured I'd go and explore it a bit. He did mention its been a while since he's been there (almost 20 years) so we're not 100% on what it's like these days. If that trail has been shut down we could do Pilot Rock Road trail (moderate difficulty) which would mean it may be better to do the Cleghorn West to East then doing Pilot Rock Road on the east side of Silverwood Lake (starts at 34? 14' 16.2"N 117? 17' 22.0"W) although it's only a 20 minute drive from the western trailhead to the southe Pilot Rock Road trailhead.
