Getting the Wheeling Fever
A couple months ago I installed manual hubs in my 95 Montero LS. I was just wondering if it is common to have the 4x4 indicator light flash when putting a load on the engine. The 4x4 solenoids are new. I figure it is just the norm that the system detects that the front is not moving anymore or something to that effect.

My 95 does not flash when the SW hubs I put on are freewheeling. Are you saying that the front wheel lights flash, the green ones that blink until the CAD lock up? DOn't know what to suggest on that, sorry...

Yeah the two front ones. Like I said though... It only happens when I'm going up a hill or accelerating. If I'm just cruising down the road on level ground it doesn't blink at all. It is in perfect working order. 4wd works perfect and nothing wrong but an occasional flashing light. A bit irritating at night. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

I don't think those lights have anything to do with the hubs since it's a Central Axle Disconnect system versus a Hub disconnect system like in the Gen I's.

When I lock the hubs, it doesn't flash anymore. Only flashes when the hubs are free.

Just a joke, but, you could apply a piece of black electrical tape over the flashing lights. It's just like how I used to fix a blinking clock on the front of a VCR.

I am starting to think that the intake could be leaking when the engine is at high RPM thus losing vacuum to the 4wd solenoid. Still not sure why it doesn't do it when the hubs are engaged though. Could be able to hold the vacuum when they are engaged better than when they are not. It runs perfect and has a new upper plenum in it though. I may do a smoke test on it just to be sure. I don't think I am going to let it bother me too much since the benefits of the manual hubs far outweigh the aggravation of a blinking light.
