No doubt the F-4 was a very versatile platform, all the way up to its F-4G Wild Weasel days. Guess there are similarities comparing an F-4 to an F-22 with our Gen 1 Montys and the latest SUVs, with turbo this, automatic that, computer-controlled this, active/passive that, etc.

Today's F-22 has 70K pounds of thrust on afterburner, which is double that of the F-4. The Raptor also has a radar cross section of .0001 square meters, compared to 6 square meters for the F-4. As with the F-4, I would imagine the main limiting factor on the F-22 is the human pilot!
