G'day Guys,
Mark Hardman here. Along with Frank (aka Bitsamissin) we designed the original Gen 1 Mitsy Low range gear set. I have since produced Gen 2, 3 & 4 sets all with great success and feed back.
For me this was a side line project to help those who wanted low range gearing for their rigs that no one else was interested in helping. Our main gig is Mining equipment and parts for the oil and gas industry along with a lot of medical, scientific and some helicopter gearboxes thrown in the mix.
In November 2011 I purchased Marks 4WD Adaptors based in Dingley, Melbourne, Australia. We now have an outlet for selling and distributing the products we manufacture.
We started producing more gear sets in 2011 but with the integration of the new company along with already having a decent work load it has taken some time.
The gears will be stocked by Marks 4WD Adaptors so there is no need for a group buy. We are currently producing sets for Gen 1, 2, 3 & 4.
All sets will be ready to ship by the end of April.
We also produce low range sets for Nissan patrol and Toyota Landcruiser 40, 60 & 80 series.
We also produce sequential racing transmissions under the Star Transaxles logo. www.startransaxles.com

You can email me - mark@hardmanbros.com.au
I hope this clears up any misinformation.
Regards,
Mark Hardman - Marks 4WD Adaptors

Mark,

great to hear from you, & thanks for coming online.

Interesting you say you have developed gears for the Gen4.

Does that include the diesels with auto tranny in the NT. It got a new transmission assumedly to take the extra torque of the upgrated 3.2 tdi.

I matched some part numbers with my local Mitsu guy some time ago & we determined that the NT diesel tranny had a different input gear than previous models. The other 2 gears all had the same part number.

Need a Spot
Although not a Mitsy expert I have sold gears for the Gen 4 which as far as I know are the same as the Gen 3. I stand to be corrected; as the manufacturers change design so frequently it's hard to keep up so we would have to try, or I would need a transfer case in question to test fitment. Mark

Thanks for the info Mark. Good to hear the info, been anxious to hear the news. So a group buy wouldn't benefit a few of us here in the US? I guess it wouldn't cause once in the US, it would have to go to different states. How do we get prices & shipping costs? Thanks for joining and sharing the info

Got some new info from Mark via email. Explained that a group buy may not benefit cause of importing considering size & price of objects in shipment.

So looks like individual purchases may benefit more & it goes directly to you compared to group buy/bulk going to one central location then distributing them out.

Some of you may already have this info if you've contacted him, just wanted to put it out there. And as mentioned above, should be ready near end of this month. I think I'll be ready sometime next month, who else is serious? I live in VA btw just incase a close neighbor wanted to buy a set

Angelo,

Pricing on Marks 4WD Adapters website indicates the gears are AU$1395 plus shipping. The package they shipped to my hotel room in was approximately 10x20x30cm and the weight was only 10K based on what they told me. The gears themselves are no more than ~15lbs in total. They may be able to fit them into a smaller box 10x20x20cm or so.

From that you can probably calculate international shipping from a range of shippers although as you could imagine there's also handling that could be factored into the total amount.

Just trying to go the best route. Mark made it sound like packing them in one box was going to end up being costly compared to sending them separately.

If the interest has died down some, we may have no choice but to buy separately

Hello Ray,

It's a pity we couldn't meet up and take you to see Mark and his operation. You would be drooling when you see the dedicated shelf with all the Mitsi gears sitting there (drool would have later been washed away with numerous local beers).
Plus have a drive of a Gen 3 3.2 diesel - you would have mucho bragging rights on the forum.
At least you have your 3.15's now so when is the install ?

Frank.

We bought the most recent set, the gears are no longer available directly from Marks 4WD. They have to be bought from Advanced Adapters i think the cost is now around $2000-2500. At that point you're getting into Atlas range anyways

How do you know if a Montero Sport has 4.90's? There is one in a junkyard here in Minnesota and I was thinking of checking it out...
