So a Klune would work if it were fitted with a short shaft, is that what you're saying? If that's the case that may be a really good option.

If you could mount a 2.7 Klune that would be ideal.

It would give you the the following crawl ratios.

4hi = 2.8*4.63*1.0 = 13:1
4lo = 2.8*4.63*1.9 = 25:1
4hi & Klune = 2.8*4.63*1.0*2.7 = 35:1
4lo & Klune = 2.8*4.63*1.9*2.7 = 67:1

With these ratios and an automatic tranny this would be a sweet setup. This would also allow you to retain the Select Trac system in the vehicle. Klune also make a 4:1 ratio but that would give you a 99:1 crawl ratio and that is to low for the kind of wheeling I want to do.

THought it would be worth mentioning that if you wanted an underdrive in front of the stock superselect case [color:"red"] YOU WILL NEED AN SAS [/color] the reason for this is that the torsion bar crossmember will be in the way for the large mitsu case.

Having said that you could go with a double NP231 like Nathan C or a doubler and a gear driven case.

As for 2 speed T-cases I think 3.15 is the perfect all around ratio for doing everything.

4:1 is good for crawling but sucks for trailing when you need more torque but don't need to drive 5mph (hills, ruts, sand, heavy loads ect.)

3.15:1 can crawl but you'll still need to give it some throttle at times and if you get really deep they can stall (or torque converter slip) They're ok for trailing but if the terrain varies a lot you can find yourself stopping and shifting frequently

2.7:1/2.8:1 is awesome for trailing, you get good torque in the lower gears and can still get to good speeds between the rough stuff. Not so good for crawling unless you're rocking 31's expect to stall even with a big motor like 3.5.

1.9:1 stock. Is good for trailing around and high speed dirt, there is no such thing as crawling with these gears.

Now many an Az Crewer hits the rocks with 1.9 and 2.7 T-case gears, they just do it at a higher RPM. Much entertainment follows <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Even if you don't rock crawl you should consider a transfer case regear, lower gears = less shock loads and longer lasting parts. Once regeared your capability goes through the roof, lower RPM = less wheel spin and more traction. In my opinion I would do the transfer case gears before the big tires and before lockers.

yes agreed however the Klune is just too exxy.

The NW fab unit achieves the same but is $1k cheaper.

It certainly does look like a tight fit, thats why I was interested in the short 4" version of the blackbox, but if the cross memebr is in the way I believe it could be modified by cutting the centre out (retaining the ends where the torsion bar bolts on) and welding in a dog leg section allowing the dueler enough clearance.

you are correct the cross member is going to be in the way & it cant be modified as the placement of the torsion bar mounts will not allow this.

Therefore the only option if I want to keep the Paj case is to pursue the Blackbox shorter unit which is only meant to be 4".

So slightly back on topic.....

What do we do about the 20 sets of 3.15 that will need to bought before we can get them? Who's a frequent member on the outter limits board that could help push some of these gears? I'd like to get the ball rolling here if it's going to happen.

As for the doubler, sounds like there still a few things to work out but I don't think most of us will ever need to crawl that slow without doing any other serious mods first, like a SAS

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN 3.15 T-CASE GEARS, NOWS THE TIME TO BUY! Cause if it doesnt happen this time around, doubt it will come back up. Speak up now.

Between the 2 sites, I was thinking it was possible, but I don't frequent much at the Outer Limits to begin to convience the members to invest in this "20 set deal".

Anyone else care to help get the word out & push it? I researched all this background info, now need help pushing the idea to the other board.

Did we ever get a head count of individuals interested in the 3.15 gears? I want to say there were Atleast 5-6 seriously interested. That means the majority of the buyers would have to come from the Outer Limits board.

Add your name to this list, copy & paste it if think you could purchase t-case gears within the next 3-6 months
